History
The playing field was purchased by the hard work and generosity of  people of the village several decades ago and a registered charity set up. However, the committee was dormant from the 1970's with the Parish Council taking over the running of the field. It was not until 2000 that the Charity was formally switched  to  the Parish Council .

The Old Pavilion
This was already at least second hand when purchased in the 1960's. The building eventually deteriorated and with the assistance of vandalism became unsafe and unusable.

16/11/00
Parish Council sent  a questionnaire to all residences in the village and  58 were returned.  The majority were in favour of

  1. A building for sport and social purposes
  2. Preferably of a traditional build
  3. Accept a £20,000 low interest loan
  4. Apply for grants
The Parish Council met on Wednesday 15/11/00 in order to agree apply for the £20000 loan before the offer expired.
Parish Council voted  unanimously to apply for the loan.
The Parish Council agreed to seek quotes for a 'design and build' of a steel frame building as the current funds will not support a large enough building for adequate changing rooms and a social area. If sufficient funds become available then brick cladding may be added.

There is still much work to be done to raise funds, apply for grants and organise the running of the pavilion. Grant applications would proceed more easily if people could come forward and express an interest in playing in or organising  sports teams and other groups

The New Pavilion
For several years the Parish Council had set aside some monies for repair or replacement of the pavilion. It was hoped that the replacement pavilion should be large enough to be useful to other groups in the village e.g. youth. The hope of Lottery grants failed due to the lack of active teams. Fundraising over the last 18 months has generated approximately £3000 to a fund of £14,000. A £20,000 low interest Government Loan has been accepted to give a  budget of £34,000. It was initially hoped to have a brick structure but this was thought to be too small. A steel clad structure was costed and found to be too expensive. A 'portacabin' offering only changing rooms may be affordable. The only currently affordable option to include a social area will be a traditional wooden pavilion . The Parish council is waiting for quotes and will arrange a Public Meeting  when plans are available.
SPM 27/03/01
A traditional hard wood structure proved too expensive  when considering the additional costs of the interior when presented at the June 2001 meeting.  The next option is a self build project of a  pavilion and club room following a Sport England  foot print.  Plans are being drawn and costings made for a self build project at £30,000
SPM 08/01
Hooray , the Parish Council has agreed to cost the self build wooden pavilion the plans will be shown on line soon. Public meeting  5th Sept 2001 in Memorial Hall to views the plans .
Planning permission granted 26/10/01
Generous support from Jacksons Building Centres means we have more certainty of remaining within budget (max £35K) and allowing an improved internal  fit out. We still need volunteers as the internal block work and labouring will be done by ourselves. The Parish Council are investing in the renovation of the football , cricket pitches and tennis courts
